The modern world is a stressful place, and when it comes to learning how to relax properly, there are numerous resources out there. But we can get swamped with a lot of information. Sometimes, it’s all about the simplistic ideas. And when it comes to finding ways to calm down, you can’t get much simpler than your scents. Smell, touch, hearing, sight, and taste are what the majority of us have at our disposal to calm down. So, how can we use these senses to our advantage?

Smell

There are so many different scents you can use to relax, and the best way to feel carefree in your own home is to get a fragrance scent diffuser. They can pump wonderful smells throughout your home, from relaxing lavender to calming chamomile.  Having the right scent is integral to putting your mind at ease.

Touch

Commonly overlooked, the sensation of touch is a great way for you to become mindful of the location you are in. Many mindfulness techniques involve the sensation of touch to get you accustomed to the environment you’re in, and to put your brain into another realm. And when it comes to touch, remember, the love hormone, oxytocin, is created by hugs and cuddles. Whenever you’re feeling stressed, get a hug off someone.

Hearing

If you don’t listen to relaxing music to put your mind at ease, then it might be time to begin. The power of music to calm us down has been the subject of numerous studies over the years. But when picking the right music for you, it might not be your favourite artist; it might be something completely different. It’s worth experimenting with this, so you can find something that automatically puts you into relaxation mode after a difficult day.

Sight

Colour is the key to relaxing by sight. Painting your rooms tranquil shades, such as blue and green, are incredibly easy ways to calm down. While there are teas like chamomile that will relax you, making it an ideal drink before bedtime, getting into a semi-meditative state by drinking something and thinking about the taste sensations is a wonderful way to focus your mind away from the troubles around you.

This is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to relaxing, and while so many people go much deeper into relaxation methods, the simplest approaches are, a lot of the time, the best ones.
